The Story

Fort Aguada is worth visiting because it brings together 400 years of maritime history, military engineering, colonial heritage and spectacular coastal views. Unlike many forts that survive only as ruins, Aguada retains substantial sections of its original defensive structure. Walking along the ramparts gives you a se…nse of why this location was strategically important: the fort overlooks the Arabian Sea, the Mandovi estuary and the approaches to Goa's historic capital. It is also one of the best places in North Goa to combine history with a scenic sunset experience.
Local Insider Tip
The fort is located on Fort Aguada Road in Sinquerim, Candolim, North Goa. You can reach the hilltop section by road from Sinquerim Beach. There is also a shorter walking route of approximately 2 km, but it involves a steep climb.
If driving, follow signs for Aguada Fort / Sinquerim rather than relying only on the beach name.
