Shri Mahadeva Temple

The temple was constructed around the 12th century during the Kadamba period, when the Kadamba dynasty played an important role in Goa's history. It is considered the only well-preserved example of Kadamba-Yadava temple architecture in basalt in Goa. Its remote location deep in the forest is believed to have helped pr…otect the temple from the destruction and religious persecution that affected many other temples in Goa during periods of invasion and Portuguese rule. Some historical sources associate its construction with the reign of Kadamba ruler Shivachitta Permadideva and Queen Kamaladevi, although details of its exact origins and architectural influences have been debated.
